This week’s photo challenge was made for me! Yippee! How many hundreds of doors I photographed, I don’t remember. But I can’t get enough of them, wherever I go. Wanted to post some more doors, anyway, so this is a good opportunity to do it. These old doors are again from Kefalonia, Greece. I wish you all a wonderful week-end, not so hot as we have it here (105 F!!)
That’s a fun collection of doors Mitza! Much more interesting than the ones in my neighborhood.

Thanks a lot, that’s decay, too. New doors are a bit boring, but I hope you live in a nice neighborhood. Have a wonderful week-end, regards Mitza

UGH! Looks like 67ยฐ on our deck, but it is early – not yet nine o’clock in the morning. It is supposed to rain off and on all week, and that will keep the temperatures in check.

you’re lucky, here it starts to rain, too, right now, hope it cools down tomorrow

We hope that Greece solves its economic crisis and prospers.

Thank you, Tom. Nowadays it’s not easy to be Greek. We hope very much that Greece will overcome all it’s difficulties and rise like a phoenix from it’s old and beautiful culture. Regards Mitza

Yes, sue, that’s really true. But one day I have photographed them all and then?? I must look for other places, hehe. Have a wonderful day. Hope you don’t have such a heat like we do. Regards Mitza

Hi Mitza, surely you haven’t photographed all the doors in Kefalonia yet! As for the heat here, it has been nearly 30C….I stay indoors with the curtains closed. Today not as bad anyway, have a good day yourself ๐

Yes, I’m really known for my door-photos, hehe. But could be worse. Doors are nearly an obsession, but I don’t need any drugs then, hehe. Regards Mitza

beautiful! I agree, most new doors are pretty nondescript, without the layered weathered patterns and colours of your lovely doors ๐

Thank you, Debi, I know you like some of the colors and patterns. Instead of taking drugs I make door photos, hehe. Some sort of an obsession. Have a wonderful Sunday. We are sweating to death here. Hope it will cool down soon.

So many different styles of doors, one could never imagine that so many exist! ๐ Some remind me of my village in Greece, they have many iron decorated doors in earthy color tones.

I still didn’t photograph all doors in all villages in Kefalonia, but when driving through I remarked that every village has different designs and colors. Can’t stop to photograph, hehe

๐ That’s really beautiful! You should really do a book with all the doors of Kefalonia an if the Greeks had a bit of appreciation they could sell your book at some local markets there ๐ As a tourist i would get it…

But you know how they are: My friends always ask me why I photograph these ugly old doors and show me some new plastic ones that they think are much more beautiful. Maybe these doors would be much more appreciated here. But I just wanted to raise a monument for the creativeness of Greek iron smiths. ๐

Exactly, i know…that’s why i said “if” they had any appreciation… It’s funny that i see a huge difference in interest from Austrian people about my photos. I’ve been contacted many times and have been asked if they could repost a photo of mine or feature it. Especially on Instagram, from shopping malls i’ve visited to the Vienna tourist board…you name it… In Greece…nobody ever cared! It’s their loss really, they need to realize that there is no better advertisement from regular people who really care enough about the places they photograph… They should support that.

yes, you are completely right, particularly in a country that was the cradle of civilization once one would expect more appreciation for our arts, isn’t it? I don’t have Instagram and facebook etc. So this means that you feel much more understood in Austria.

Yes, correct! I miss my friends and family in Greece but i love it here! And i have been given the change to study and get a diploma for free, Graphic Design and Market-communication, which would never happen in Greece! Fingers crossed! I have to go through a preparation and test week in 10 days actually, if it goes well, i’m in ๐

I once thought about studying graphic design, too. I studied illustration for 4 years. But it’s really hard to live as an artist. But you are young and not anxious and I hope you will be really lucky with all your plans in the future, Alex, have a wonderful week-end, I keep my fingers crossed for your, ๐ Mitza

๐ Thank you Mitza! Illustration is also really interesting! I wanted to study marketing cause i think it’s more important to know how to present yourself and your work and also help other artists but since i’ve been given the opportunity to study for free and it’s only a year of very intensive studies that cover graphic design, photography, web design and marketing, i thought it would really help me, not only with my German but i will get a very rounded knowledge that will help me on my personal projects and i’ll be ready to work in a company or so cause the last month of the studies is actually working in a company. Fingers crossed! ๐ Next week i have to go through a test week and then we’ll know for sure…

wow, Alexandra, that sounds really great to get such a chance. I’m pretty sure you will make it. You are talented enough. I’ll keep my fingers crossed and hope one day you will know some more German. ๐

I love Greece and have been many times…even lived there, teaching English for a while. The most beautiful examples of doors I have seen in an urban setting were in Krakรณw in southern Poland. Stunning! You work is very beautiful. Good luck with your studies
