I would like to participate in this weekly photo challenge with 4 photos: 2 photos show Greek landscapes from Kefalonia and the other 2 show German landscapes at the Elbe river. Yesterday we have visited some friends who bought a house in a little village. Their property goes down to the Elbe river. The day was warm but very dizzy because there was sand from the Sahara coming up to us. I fell in love with this wonderful very calm atmosphere and we decided to move to this place sooner or later, too.
The other photos were made in Kefalonia after a heavy thunderstorm. Normally the sky is very intense blue, but this day was a bit more “dramatic”. In Kefalonia I like the solitude in some places, too, where you only hear the wind, birds singing and the bells of goats and sheep from a distance. That’s so calming like some sort of meditation for me.
Nice photos Mitza. I really like your new header image too.

I love the leading line of the wall up to the bit of blue, which echoes, and is balanced by, the blue “bulge” at the left. The green bits provide a nice grounding. A very pleasing photo! ;->

Awesome shots! 🙂
We also live on a river. I hope that their river will never flood too high (as some rivers can)! We are OK, but the town 10 miles south of us floods now and then from the river.

They were lucky. We had a big flood some years ago and they were high enough but a lot of their neighbours were flooded. Thanks for commenting, Tom, have a nice day, regards Mitza

No wonder you want to move there. It’s no challenge at all when you have such scenery in front of you 🙂

G’day Mitza. I love the quiet when I can get it. That’s why I rise before the sun 🙂

Me, too. I usually get up between 05.00 and 06.00h in the morning, listen to the birds sing etc. 🙂

I’m happy you like my photos so much, Debi. The lake is a river called Elbe and is huge. It was windless and it didn’t have any waves, a wonderful – as you say blissful atmosphere. I’m like a vacuum cleaner, I absorb all this beauty and it gives so much to me. 🙂

it is the simplicity within nature that can provide us with our deepest rewards and restorations – imo. I’ve read books featuring Elbe river. Now I must thank you for a up close and personal, intimate view of this ancient waterway Mitza!!!

The Elbe river goes also through Hamburg which enables ships to go to the North Sea. Living at the Elbe river close to Hamburg is so expensive, but you got such a great view with all these huge ships coming and going.
And by the way, I think nature has been created in a perfect way which gives us gratitude and restoration as you say. I’m sure your nature is beautiful, too.

yes, I have read a lot of books already as a child, but could only read the books we had and they were not really high quality. Now I can choose myself and they are really world literature. lol

Your excellent photos compare the two different landscapes very well. Both reflect the spirit of tranquillity that can be present in both places. A very enjoyable post!

Thank you so much, Peter. You know at least where the Elbe river flows and where Lüchow-Dannenberg is. That’s about the place we have been. It’s really far away from everything but has nice little villages and people that greet everybody. Have a nice day, regards Mitza

Great shots Mitza! Really wonderful atmosphere, both in Greece and in Germany. The images from the Elbe remind me of the Rhein river near the city of Wageningen. Lots of willows covered in water in the wintertime. The second image, you’ve hidden mountains in the mist! I think a bit of extra contrast will bring the background more alive, you might give it a try. It made me curious 😉
Warm wishes,
Pieter

Thank you, Pieter. I’m happy you liked my photos and they reminded you of the Rhine, which I don’t know yet. I will look at my photo and see if I can change it. Regards Mitza

Hehe, that’s really funny. I don’t speak Italian, I only understand it because I learned Latin in school and know 5 languages, which helps and have a good translater in my computer. I understood everything you wrote, but sorry it takes too much time to translate all this into Italian, Riccardo. I’m happy you know English very well. Kind regards Mitza

Solitude in nature, especially where there is water and, as you say in this post, the chance to listen to such soothing sounds as the wind, birds singing and the bells of goats and sheep from a distance, can’t help but lead to calming meditation. Love these photos, and especially your new header!
