I must admit it: my favorite hobbies except photography, painting and creating jewelry are fleamarkets, antic markets, thrift shops, garage sales, etc. I’m a very visual person, I love to view a lot of details and to find extraordinary things. On fleamarkets there are so many crazy and impossible things combined which you don’t find like this in other places. Sometimes it’s really funny, sometimes even a little ambiguous, which I beg to excuse. I don’t mind that I have to get-up at 05.30 – 06.00 h every Sunday morning in order to visit one of the many fleamarkets in Hamburg that are not too far away. When I come there, I forget being tired, I’m completely absorbed by looking at all these thousands of little things. I have been a collector since early childhood and I’m still collecting a lot of things. I have been very lucky many times to make a really good deal for something old and extraordinary, and that’s why our flat looks like a museum. I re-use a lot of old things, specially in our kitchen. Everything I have collected reminds me of a certain place and it tells me a story. That’s very important to me. In the last months I have photographed some extraordinary things which I hope you will like.
What fun to be a collector! My husband and I have been going to antique shows for decades.

Thanks for your comment. Then you must be a collector, too! It’s kind of a good illness, I think. Regards Mitza

Everything looks so clean! Things like that here tend to be covered in desert dust, particularly out in the open. There is an every-weekend flea market practically within site of my house, but after having been once or twice about ten years ago, I just never found anything worthwhile. There were no unique pieces like you show; mostly just knock offs and totally useless household items. I see a lot of cars around there when I go by, though, so maybe I should give it another look one of these days.
Virtual hugs,
Judie

I guess antics are very different in Europe and USA. But I have visited some garage sales in Canada and USA and always enjoyed it a lot. Maybe you will find something sometime, good luck!

So much fun Mitza, no wonder you forget about being tired when you are looking into the past with such colourful items. What a collection!
I would also like to wish you so many blessings for the coming year! Kind regards from Agnes

Dear Agnes, thanks so much for your kind wishes. I would like to wish you all the besr for 2017, too. How long do you stay? Do you have nice fleamarkets in Ireland, too? And what about Malta?
I’m waiting for spring, the warmth, nice flowers and last but not least some good fleamarkets, kind regards Mitza

Thank you Mitza. We are still staying until end of March/beginning April, till just before Easter. Flea markets are in Ireland, but I have not seen here on Gozo, it does not mean that there are any though, just never came across them. We have some very good ones in Antwerp that I remember. 🙂 Here the weather forecast is for very cold end of week….brrrrrr…. but lovely sunshine 🙂

What a fun hobby, Mitza – will you run out of space anytime soon?!

Thanks a lot for your kind words, Sue. I must admit that space is the thing I’m lacking most of all. Just imagine to have 200 old frames at your walls and so many other things. But I really do love each and every thing I have collected because it has been something special to hunt for it and not only to go to a shop and buy it. But we will move to a house, sooner or later. Then I can start collecting again, hehe have a nice day, regards Mitza

You do have a museum, Mitza and a most interesting one too. I just have junk 😦

But you don’t know it, and one man’s junk might be the other man’s treasure. Even a stone from the beach can be beautiful, dear Mary. All the best for 2017 regards Mitza

For someone to get up at 5 o’clock in the morning to search for little treasures available at the flea markets it must be truly a passion. We have this saying that one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. If you lived in Fauquier, BC, I would invite you to come to our yard sale in the spring. Since we moved into our new smaller home, we have a lot of things that might do very well in Hamburg’s flea markets.

The early bird gets the worm, Peter. I have been quite successful being on fleamarkets quite early and made some good deals about which I’m still happy. Of course I would love to come to Fauqier to see your yard sale. Thanks for commenting, have a nice day, regards Mitza

Did you buy any of these things?

No, I only photographed the things I thought were very rare, funny, crazy, extraordinary etc. But I have some similar porcelain dogs like you can see on one of the photos. They are called captains dogs. Whenever a captain was on sea the dog looked outside, when he was at home it looked inside. Funny, isn’t it? Thanks for commenting, have a nice day, regards Mitza

I did not expect to see Laurel and Hardy figurines in your collection. We used to buy and sell collectibles and sntiques

I was a bit surprised to find them, too, but they have a lot of fans here, including me. But I didn’t buy them. What kind of things did you sell? Have a nice day and thanks for commenting, regards Mitza

Mitza, I can relate to the joy of the treasure hunt. Thrift stores are my favorite places to shop. Your vibrant pictures have me counting the hours until I can go again. 🙂

I enjoyed the flea markets thrift stores and antique stores as well. I don’t indulge as often anymore as I’m trying to downsize and get rid of things rather than collect. I’m always so tempted!

Lovely pictures. I’m a big fan of serendipity. I recently found a deck of oracle cards in a charity shop. Lord of the Rings. They were very popular.
